"Good thinking, masked fighter!” The man had spirit… Among other things. Some people might have been confused or annoyed, having to work side by side by a masked fighter. Annie found Pokenger, as odd as he seemed, a refreshing change from the usual begrudged trainer. Just as his whipped cream blew the darkness away, his enthusiasm – or just his charm – staved off sleep during the early hours.

Donnie, on the other hand, seemed content to stay on guard, watching and waiting for his next target. Or punching bag. Annie wasn’t entirely sure that he saw a difference.

With the darkness gone, they were left with Pokenger’s declaration, and then… silence. In her eyes, the calm before the storm was almost as threatening as the creatures’ attempts to scare them. She knew they were still there, watching. Planning. Waiting.

Five flew in, all at once. A Misdreavus, Dusclops, Yamask, Drifloon and Phantump moved as one. It might have been threatening if they had appeared from the darkness, but the Alcremie’s light and the fighter’s flashlight had stolen the ghouls’ advantage. Still, they were advancing, and they had nothing good to offer the trainers.

“Donnie, you’re up!” She didn’t need to tell her brawler to prepare; he was already raring for a fight, and stepped in front of her to prepare. The ghosts thought they couldn’t be punched. Under normal circumstances, they would be right, but Donnie was a special kind of fist fighter. They only realised there might have been a problem when he grabbed the Drifloon by the head and lobbed it into the Duskull, driving both into the ground.

Even then, the Pokemon didn’t seem to be attacking, just advancing. Perhaps they were playing the numbers game to try and breach the defense… Or maybe they were just the advance guard.

AS OTHER GHOST-TYPE POKEMON emerge from the ichor of night, you two will be able to recognize that they are being ordered and rallied/ like a knight on the front lines, a war-hardened aegislash, wearing its chips and scars like trophies, leads the charge. its eyes narrow at the tree, desperate to slash the thing into several thousand pieces.[break][break]

The Pangoro, always happy to be appreciated, took a moment out of his busy schedule to flash the man a cocky smile. Annie’s body was mostly hidden by Donnie’s, but her tone carried the same attitude as his grin. “That’s the mark of Camp Annie material. Your whipped cream dude isn’t half bad either!” Between the two Pokemon, they repelled the first line of attacks, and the third blessed Donnie with a wonderful scent. As if the beast needed any more encouragement to fight. He beat a fist against his chest and roared into the darkness, as if daring something stronger to show its face.

He got his wish. The Aegislash’s single eye glinted in the darkness, just long enough for the group to catch sight of it. It’s orders were quiet to them, for they were meant for others. A pair of Golett marched out to stand between the sword Pokemon and its targets. One was content to stare them down, acting as its shield.

The other stormed into battle with slow heavy steps and a raised fist. Ghastly energy began to surround the arm as it charged a Shadow Punch for the defense. “Donnie, can you out-punch him?” The panda didn’t need to be asked twice. He rushed to meet his enemy halfway, his arm taking on a fiery glow. The Shadow Punch was endured with little more than an annoyed grunt, and he returned fire with four quick jabs of his own. The Bullet Punch toppled the Golett over; it was down, but not out. That information seemed to have been lost on trainer and creature alike – or perhaps they were hoping it would stay out of action long enough for them to finish up.

“Good job! Let’s keep it moving and take down ol' one-eye!” Off Donnie went, fists and teeth bared as he continued the charge. Annie turned to Kazimir. “If we get those things out of the way, that might be the worst of it over, right? There can’t be much night left for them to keep attack- Errrr.” Her eyes snapped to the Golett Donnie was supposed to have defeated. The standing Golett. The Golett that was continuing the march towards her, while her Pokemon had charged ahead.

A pair of puppy dog eyes settled on Pokenger.

The girl let out a sigh of relief, followed shortly by an excited “Ooooo!” Not only was the masked man’s new Pokemon capable of handling their problem… It was also pretty damn cool. And also vaguely familiar. But mostly really cool-looking. “Red and black – I like it!”

Between the wrestling moves and the jet of flames, the ghostly guardians quickly found themselves in a troubling situation. At least, they would have if they were still conscious. The path was clear for them to assault the Aegislash, who realised too late that it had bitten off more than it could chew. It knew that it couldn’t run – not when Donnie was already charging to close the gap, his trainer ordering a “Night Slash!”. So it tried to play defensively instead, blocking what should have been a clean hit with King’s Shield.

Which left it open for a follow-up.

Shield and fist held a brief, tense stalemate, only to be interrupted by a flaming cat forcing the former aside. “That’s the spirit! Knock ‘em dead, Tigger! Or… deader!” Likewise, Donnie flashed the wrestler a cocky grin and an approving call, charging after the other Pokemon as the battle went on. The Aegislash was determined to fight, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Donnie, show them your moves! Give them the Vital Throw special!” Never one to sit by and watch a comrade get hurt, the panda ran into the sword’s reach shortly after it downed his partner. The Aegislash’s offensive had left it distracted, and more importantly, had lowered its shield. By the time it realised it needed to worry about Donnie again, it barely had a second to prepare itself.

Donnie slammed his arm just below the invader’s hilt, catching it in a clothesline that drove it into the ground. Slight tremors followed announced its impact, and the silence following told that their troubles might have ended. The sun beginning to peek out in the distance confirmed as much, as if the ghouls themselves had hidden daybreak from them. Still, Annie held her breath; while her Pokemon glared at the living weapon, daring it to get back up, her eyes darted around, trying to find their next foe. “…I don’t see anything else.”
